Sustainability in Maker Spaces

Sustainability in SLLC MakerSpaces

By Meaghan Hegarty

Maker Spaces are important aspects for many school library learning commons. In this visual reflection, teacher-librarian Meaghan Hegarty muses on how to sustain these spaces in an era of shrinking budgets. Originally created for her Teacher Librarianship Part 3 York University Additional Qualification Course work, Meaghan has kindly agreed to share it with a wider audience.

Meaghan Hegarty started her career in Japan and worked her way home to Canada via the UK. She has taught everything from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and, despite a background in Biology, somehow managed to land in a high school library. If she’s not running with the cross country team, you can probably still find her there, surrounded by books and teenagers and broken technology, happily discussing some random weird science fact and munching on the emergency chocolate stash she forgot she hid in the back room four months ago.
