Canadian School Library Day 2018

Journée nationale des bibliothèques scolaires

Monday October 22, 2018 was the second annual Canadian School Library Day (CSLD), and it was a tremendous success. Building on the Canadian Library Association’s National School Library Initiative, Canadian School Libraries (CSL) has moved the national celebration to a new level.

Last year in 2017 CSL published a news article sharing good news stories from almost every provincial and territorial school library association across the country. That story was shared extensively through CSL’s wider network. This year in 2018 we published a similar news article, but also launched a major social media campaign. In the weeks leading up to the big day we publicized the event with graphics in English and French, inviting schools across the country to celebrate their contributions and share their Canadian School Library Day stories on social media using the hashtag #CSLDay2018.

Canadian School Library Day

CSLD 2018 was a resounding success, demonstrating that the best kind of advocacy is capturing people’s imaginations about the role of the school library learning commons in helping students achieve their potential and schools to realize their goals.

Canadian School Library Day 2018 showcased students and teachers from across the country celebrating learning in the library. It demonstrated the contributions of all of the professionals who contribute to school library success. It was wonderful to see recognition from teachers, administrators, school districts, and government partners, and to experience this on a national level with our provincial and territorial association partners.

We’ve captured screenshots of a few of the tweets from CSLD 2018, and share them here with you. Prepare to be inspired!
